We offer two levels of medication support depending on your loved one's needs.
If your loved one requires injections (insulin, B12, blood thinners), complex IV therapy, or clinical medication oversight, an RPN is required under Ontario law. Our PSW caregivers are not permitted to administer injections — but our RPNs are fully qualified to do so.
No — under Ontario's Regulated Health Professions Act, injections are a controlled act that only RNs, RPNs and physicians can perform. Our PSW caregivers provide medication reminders and organiser support. For injections, we assign one of our CNO-registered RPNs.
Our caregivers complete a medication administration record (MAR) for every visit, noting what was given, at what time, and any observations. These records are available to families on request and can be shared with your physician or pharmacist.
This is a common challenge. Our caregivers are trained in gentle encouragement strategies. If refusal is persistent or potentially harmful, we notify the family and, if appropriate, the prescribing physician immediately.
